So i belong to another forum where a bunch of my buds bought Half.com giftcertificates from someone.

The guy was usually selling them at 50% off. Some bought $6100 for around $3000 while others spent $500 on $1000gc. For paymenyt he didnt accept paypal and instead accepted Amazon gitcards as payment. Well just yesterday half the people went to use there cards which they had gotten over the last few weeks and the links were broken. Somje spent thier cards right away and they were valid but recently about $7500 in cards were invalid and no one can track this kid down.

Last name is Yauri. He's 19 i think and from Florida. Ill post more when i get more.

Who can i contact to track this ass down

I'm assuming someone has the kid's name and address. Call the police department in his town and see what can be done. In the meantime, someone ought to gather all the relevant documentation (copies of emails, etc.) to provide to the police.

If you can tell the police you have plenty of documentation, that will help.

Common scam. Usually GC's that are being sold at that much of a discount are bought with stolen CC#'s. The scammer then sells them and gets 50ish% on what they stole. They may work for a week or so until the CC chargeback is complete, at which point the GC's are usually canceled. The scammers don't take paypal because it is widely known that PayPal will investigate/lock your account, whereas another website (amazon.com) may not have the motivation/staff to deal with scammed gift cards. Either that or they sell the amazon GC (which was paid for by a good cc#, so it won't be canceled nearly as soon) and get paypal for that.

Sucks to be you. I'd initiate a CC chargeback on the amazon.com gift cards that you/your friends bought.

Did anyone keep track of the numbers on the Amazon.com GCs they sent him?

Did anyone stop to think that it might be too good to be true?

Sorry, but QFT. No one of reasonable intelligence could participate in this "deal" and remain blissfully unaware of its seedy nature. This kid's a scammer, but your friends let their greed overcome their morals and better judgement.

Consider it a lesson learned.

Certainly it is a lesson learned for the victims, but why not try to have it be a lesson learned for the scammer as well?

That sucks dude. I have some ebay gift cards that I'm selling at 30% of face value if anyone is interested. Maybe you guys can buy a few and resell them at 50% and make up the rest.

Thats harsh man :(

A guy went to my dads last job (car workshop) and sold a bunch of cigs and wines for cheap. He just left with the £££ and didn't bring the stuff back! My dad wasn't going to hand over any £££ before getting his stuff. The guy scammed a bunch of the guys down at the car workshop...
