Help! Thermal Compound

Can you guys keep your e-penises and egos out of this thread and try and help the guy solve his problem?

So to clean the CPU he's not allowed to use any liquid? Just use a credit card to scrape the bulk of the pad off and then a dry cloth to clean it nicely?

Then for the HS, he uses the CC again and then cleans the rest with isopropyl?

I too have been working(not playing) with computers for going on 20 years(gosh I feel old), the last 16 specifically as a computer/network repair technician.

In all the time I've been associated with Anandtech, I've been fortunate enough to have dealt with both John & Ulfwald numerous times, both in buy/sell/trade and in general knowledge and advice. If they're both recommending caution and care with specific instructions on how to apply thermal compound and/or properly clean a heatsink, you would be well advised to heed their advice - I know I have and I've never been disappointed.

A solution was provided 8 minutes after eLinux asked his question. Is there something that was not clear to you?

Thanks so much for your help guys... Experiencing other problems when booting computer now, but I'll get those fixed.

I ended up leaving the original thermalpad on. I hear that AMD64 chips run really cool, anyways, so it's all good
