I?m looking for a great Mother board Processor combo deal! I need to finally upgrade my Gigabyte GA-5AX w/AMDK6-2 500 MHz to a gamming system. I don?t even know if I will need a new chasse.

Can any of you guys help me out? I am willing to wait for a deal if it?s worth it. I want to get at least a gig processor more if the price is right. :p

you could try going to pricewatch and checking out their combos, and then going to resellerratings.com to make sure the company is legitimate. or newegg.com is a good place too, and googlegear :) try all of them!
edit: i thought this would be about medicine before I got into this thread, because I thought you had something to help old people fart :Q

I don?t even know if I will need a new chasse.
You probably will if you have a K6-2. Most of them used AT cases. Some K6-2 motherboards had both AT and ATX connectors so it's possible you have an ATX case but it's not likely so you will need a new case and powersupply.

True that... Fry's has righteous prices on some barebones combos...

Check newegg, googlegear, and mwave... they are good vendors and they have some great prices... also they have terrific coustomer service (and it sounds like you are a n00b :))

Sorry I posted in the wrong place.

Thanks for the shopping info. people! :)

I don't have a Fry's in my area, never heard of it.

Now that I know where to shop it's just a question of what combo to get. Do you people have any recommendations for me or maybe a site where I can get a non-confusing idea on what combo would be right for me? Most reliable Motherboard, Fast reliable low cost Processor? There are so many to choose from.

I do have a generic clone ATX chasse. I hope that means I?m in good shape.

I would love to be confident that my PC will play the heck out of the new PC games that have or will come out.

Thanks for all your help people! I am one step closer to having my dream PC thanks to you. :D

also, directron is a great company. I ordered a case from them and a power supply, and they shipped it, power supply screwed into place inside the case, and it ame very promptly to my door. I would definitely reccomend them!

Watch Newegg's refurbished motherboards and pick up an Asus P4B266-C for ~75.00. Get a P4-1.6A Retail for ~140 (at Newegg) or look for a slightly better price at another vendor. Pick up a stick of 256mb DDR PC2100 or better, prices vary. There was a deal in this forum on a Phillips Seismic Egde for ~20.00 shipped. An ATI Radeon 8500 or LE for ~100 should complete the package. You should be set for a while and get great performance as well.....................
