Now, I would spend some serious money on my home theater system.

when you spend enough time in your car driving in a day, it's kinda nice to have ;)
I spend 2 hrs driving to and from work everyday, not counting the time in between. I find that what I have in my car is more than sufficient. I currently have a pair of factory tweeters (dash) 6 1/2 (front) and 6X9 Pioneer (some craptacular speakers), and they're loud and clear enough with a Kenwood deck pushing them (~42 watts rms, able to play mp3 and wmas that I paid ~$200 for). I also have a 10 W-2 pushed with a bridged cheapo Sony amp (for the sub only). Been running this rig for 2 years now and I have no problems listening to music in my car.

I have no intention of playing my music for other drivers to hear, nor can I really "enjoy" music while driving. They serve more of an engine noise replacement, if you will, for lack of better entertaining noises (unless you're driving a Ferrari or a Porsche, or similar caliber cars).

If you think that you need more than that, then it's to show off land you go.
Some people may be more "into" their music than you are. I used to commute 2 hours each way to work and back, and my factory stuff weren't too bad, but they didn't cut it for me. So I put in a $1200 system. I love it.

My HT speakers alone cost over $10K. So yeah, I'm "kinda" "into" music... just a little.

Oh... and the 6 1/2s and 6x9s are not factory.

Let me list my car stereo components for you:

6 1/2s + 6x9s (Pioneer) ~ 150 bucks if I remember
10inch W-2 (boxed) got it from a friend for $40 bucks
200watts Sony amp 2 channel (open box at GG) bargained for $110, which I then bridged just to push one sub.
Sirius- promotion, no costs on equipment.
Kenwood deck ~$ 200 bucks

Labor = $0 (help from friends and myself)

There... good shopping and some sweat, it won't cost you much.

well, i already have a kickass home theater system.

as for navi, i'd like to have it since i have an absurdly poor sense of direction and i can get lost very easily. and if im paying for a navi i might as well get something that plays dvds. I do like listneng to music in teh car and if im spending 3K on a screen and navi spending a little more to be able to play mp3s and such makes sense for me. I am not looking for having 4 12 " subs or anything like that, i jsut want my music to sound good.

I wasn't accusing you of not being into music (gasp)! Obviously, you feel one way and other people feel differently. Doesn't mean that it's show-off land just because you don't think it's necessary.

You're definately getting screwed over. I wouldn't go with the brands that you're choosing either. MB Quart is good, but just say no to RF. They are an ok brand, but I think that if you shop around a little bit then you'll have a change of opinion. Go with what alkemyst said and go to sounddomain. Those guys will steer you in the right direction:)

You'll most likely be Running WinXp.

Ummmm... i dont even wanna start.

let him do what he wants with his money guys, he wants the stereo, let him get it.

But, the navi stuff seems about right.
the component setup i would change. Kodas are nice, CDT audio makes nice stuff.
The amps, and sub i woul DEFFINATELY change. Maybe some REaudio.com stuff.

I am not sure where they are located, but superior sounds is supposed to be one of the top installers on the west coast.

With the touchscreen, there are a couple of front ends to run. One is MediaCar (yeah, the site is in another language, but I love it with these skins).

There is frodoplayer, (currently under lots of development), and MediaEngine. Go to mp3car.com, head into the forums, and read under software.

One thing you may want to invest in is some type of security system. Yeah, alarms are annoying and just make noise, but they now make the keypads with pager functions that let you know if your alarm is going off and they make them have more use. The stock one that comes with the car might work in preventing them from driving off with it, but they want the toys before the vehicle. After i had my cd player ripped off, i wish i had done more to prevent it and i thought i lived in a safe area. 3 cars on my street and 8 in the neighborhood in one night. To be on the safe side only put into the car what you dont mind replacing, should the misfortune happen to you.

That price may be on the high side, but it sounds like they do quality work and wont mess up your car like the circuit city kids. I would opt for an ipod instead of the music keg. More functionality and you get to take music with you. There are headsets being made that can control the ipod and display whats being played. Slashdot has some links on this that are only about a month old. I will see if i can find them again as to who is making it, alpine makes one, but there is another company that has developed an awesome looking display for it. Have fun with your toys, i know i would. :)

i dont know about the other equip, but the amp/sub prices are just ludicrous.... tell him to go fvck himself (and point out that he's an as$hole for charging you this much)

Just another suggestion...make sure your auto insurance covers *everything* you put in your car.

i agree with the REaudio suggestion. im running their 15" HC (mid line sub) and its amazing. i coupled that with jbl bp1200.1 and built an enclosure for it. when all was said and done (including wiring, carpetting the box, install, EVERYTHING) i must have dropped around 500 bucks for it. not bad considering its pushing 1200+ watts...

for wiring, check out knukonceptz.com.. they have some good stuff at great prices...
