I finally got my new system (after a little RAM fiasco). I have an Abit TH7-II, a Northwood 1.6, and 256MB of Samsung RDRAM (for now...). I installed a fresh IBM Deskstar 60 gig hdd and a floppy drive from my old gateway. And, I'm using a Leadtek GeForce2 MX SH Max. I boot the computer and I get to POST 29...then nothing. I tried reseating everything, reboot, and still, POST 29. No output to the monitor, no beeps, no anything.

I know that the bios for Northwoods is supposed to be the 38 one (I think 37 comes as a default), but I have no way to flash it since I can't get past the POST. Has anyone else had this trouble? I've read posts where people installed a Northwood and got a "computer changed or in error" message on boot and had to flash the bios. Should I be getting that as well? Is something fried in my system? Like my CPU or mobo? Or do I have to flash the bios before I can boot off of the 1.6 (which means finding another P4 or get Abit to send me a new bios chip)?

Help...

I'm sorry to hear about your difficulty. I have a P4 2000A and a TH7II-RAID, but I never experienced such difficulties. The system should POST normally, so I think you have a bad mainboard or BIOS chip; I would contact ABIT and ask them about it, I'm sure they'll have the solution.
