When I boot up my machine, at an uspecified amount of time it will make a very loud screeching sound and reboot. Sometimes it happens as soon as I hit the power switch and will not boot at all, then sometimes it will run for an hour or so.

I have watched the temp settings in the bios and it has rebooted at 3 different temp. 41c 43c 45.5c all of which are well in the normal operating range of CPU (see below for specs)

I have replaced the motherboard, harddrive, RAM, floppy driv, CD-ROM, PSU and even bought a UPS thinking maybe it was the power coming into my house.

I have read forums until my eyes have crossed and I can't find anyone with the same problem. The CPU was purchased new from NewEgg and unopened until this installation.

Please HELP

SPEC's

amd athlon 64 3000+
asus K8V SE deluxe
1 gig kinston ddr3200 ram
40 WD harddrive
BFG 6800oc video card

Cooling is stock products that come with the CPU, but as stated above, heat never seem to get that high at any time.

Scoob, Welcome to the Forum!

What is making the "screeching sound"?

Or should I say, where does it come from?

It doesn't sound like a "beep code" from the mobo.

It does sound like the noise I hear from my UPS when there is a power problem (too much power drawn on the circuit).

Thanks

Yeah, it is coming from the on board speaker. Not a beep though, more like a tornado warning. I have never heard anything like it coming from a PC.

Right now all can think of is heat or voltage (the psu). I wanna say get Motherboard Monitor 5 and run the sys log, but the guy running that proggie bailed, and I don't know if it was b4 or after he set it up for your mobo. But I'd say check it out (MBM5) and see if you can run it. The sys log option is on the lower left of the main screen/window for MBM5. Activate the sys log thingy and choose to have it write to a text.doc, Choose short recording intervals of one second and go back and check the log after the problem occurs.

I have sent the CPU back to see if it is faulty, if not, then I will try that.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
