i currently own a dell latitude LS model laptop (3.5lbs) which has a 128MB and a 4GB hard drive.

i am thinking of purchasing a used IBM Thinkpad X20 laptop (3.5lbs) which has 384MB and a 20GB hard drive.

i want to swap hard drives and memory. for the life of me, i can figure out if this will work.

i would like to put the 20GB into the dell and the 4GB into the IBM.

i also want to take the 256MB chip out of the IBM and swap it with the DELL's 128MB chip, making both have 256MB memory. the dell only has 1 slot, while the IBM has 2 slots for memory.

i have research dells and ibm's website support areas, but cannot make any conclusions about the hard drive.

can someone please help me out to figure if i can do the swaps!

thanks for a great website everyone!

I believe the DELL only takes the smaller 144 pin SODIMM's and the IBM used the Larger ones.
You will need to check the sizes. If they are the same sizes it will work as they both are
3.3v CL-2 non-parity PC100 modules.

You may have fun trying to configure the IBM if it has onboard Modem/Sound
which uses a DSP chip.

do you mean to say there are TWO different sizes for 144 pin SO-DIMMs?

im slightly confused.

anybody else have thoughts on the hard drive. i am leaning towards the fact the hard drives can be interchangable.
