help switching hard drive controllers

I want to switch from one SATA controller on my mobo to the other for my boot drive. I loaded the drivers onto a floppy, booted to my winXP installation CD, and hit F6 to install 3rd party sata drivers. i selected the driver off the floppy and hit enter. then, some stuff happens, and i get to a "Welcome to Setup" screen where my options are to install Windows, to repair windows, and to exit. i tried just exiting and restarting, but I got a BSOD when I tried to boot up. do I HAVE to do a fresh install or a repair install to get this driver installed? how can i install the driver w/o having to do an install?

Have you tried (In XP) Device Manager, Hardware, IDE/ATA Controllers/select the one you want and try Update Drivers.
