Help: Stumped ... new conroe system problems

My new build doesn't seem to be working, here are the symptoms:

Press power button, system seems to go on for a second, then stop. Then comes back on again after a few tries and stays on.

Hard drive spin up, floppy drive light flashes once, processor fan and rear case fan spin up.

No output appears on my monitor. I've tried it with and without a DVI adapter. I've tried replacing the PCI Express 7300LE with an old PCI TNT RIVA graphics card; still no video signal.

I've tried unplugging everything except the video card, processor and fan, and one stick of ram from the motherboard, and the same thing happens - no video.

I don't have a spare compatible power supply to use to test that. I also don't have a spare motherboard to use to test.

What should I try next?

Here are the exact parts:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
ASUS EN7300LE/HTD/128M Geforce 7300LE 128MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card
2x Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
Antec NSK 4400 Black/Silver 0.8mm cold-rolled steel construction ATX Mini Tower Computer Case 380W Power Supply
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model F2-6400PHU2-2GBNS

:cookie: to whomever helps me figure this one out...

Sorry, I should have been more clear. This is a new build, all new parts; I haven't been able to get it to boot at all, let alone get it formatted and install windows.

That power supply looks weak.

I don't think it's the problem, since I've unplugged everything but the mobo and small video card and a stick of ram, and it still has the problem.

Crimson,

I'm an idiot when it comes to this RAM stuff, but I ordered that same motherboard and have been following threads here and there. Its seems that the G.Skill RAM is a problem. It requires 2.0 volts to boot, but the motherboard only supplies 1.8 or 1.9 volts. If I understand correctly, you should try some 1.8 volt Ram, and then change the BIOS settings. Look here and see if it fits your situation:

Make sure you pluggd in teh 12V CPU power connector.... that one got me a couple years ago when I accidentally mounted the mobo on top of the cable which made me forget to plug it in.

dude.... IT WORKS!

I stole a 256mb module from my Dell 420SC, popped it in by itself (just that and the mobo plugged in) and it booted 🙂 Thank you!

I will RMA the G.SKILL and get some more reasonable sticks 🙂

You definitely win the cookie.

And you get extra chocolate chips if you can recommend an alternative 2x1GB set to swap it for in RMA 🙂

Looks okay.. $177 after rebate isn't so bad either.

ps. Stupid newegg charging me $22 to return the g.skill stuff. *grumbles*

Woot I was able to cancel my order. Now Void. 🙂 Now hopefully tomorrow it will credit my account for the amount it charged.

That would of totally ruined my week, I feel your pain crimson. 😱

Anyways Corsair looks good, rebate, 1.9V, plus free shipping. 🙂

hehe thanks bud... glad this thread helped another AT'er avoid the same fate!

I'm gonna be really careful about which ram I get for this next, maybe look at sites/forums and see what they used successfully with this board. The voltage being 1.8 or 1.9 does seem to be key.

Finally got my system to post (DOA cpu or c2d not recognized by mobo, dont know which yet) but its runnin corsair 2x1gb ddr800 and seems to be running just fine.
