Just got the Phanteks PH-TC14PE from newegg this week http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-pla-_-NA-_-NA and I may have already screwed (lol) myself.

My mounting screw seems to have stripped the threading on the heatsink. I have asked phanteks to send me an extra mounting screw because mine is obviously stripped, and I await their reply. But I don't really know what I am going to do about the threading on the heat sink.

Do you think I can just cram an over sized screw in there? Or maybe a self-tapping screw?

If you are not familiar with the TC14PE: the "Mounting Screw" is the only screw holding the heatsink to the mounting plate. This thread is very difficult to access, as it is on the aluminum base, between the two towers , so I don't see any way to drill out the bad thread and retap it.

Is there anything I can do, or is this thing a paperweight already?

The screw in the middle? You don't have to really tighten that. Not sure how you "stripped the threading", it's there to hold the crossbar from sliding off while you tighten the 2 outside screws. ;)

yep. the one in the middle.

I was thinking that the way it is now it would keep the heatsink from falling off the mounting strips, but it would be a little loose and could cause the whole thing to move around, possibly damaging my processor.

But I certainly am glad to hear that you think I it's not important. I was freaking out a bit and I wasn't really thinking about it too clearly. Thinking about it more, I do believe you are right. The two spring screws on either side
of the stripped mounting screw should be enough to keep it all firmly in place.

Thanks.
