Help! Strange problem with my burner.

My burner for some reason stopped working. When i turn on my comp it detects my burner but the light on the burner blinks green then red and repeat forever. Anyone know what this means?

EDIT: also windows knows theres a burner but when i put a CD in nothing shows up. When i put a CD inside the burner spins up for a quick second and stops dead every time.
 
I assume it's a CD burner.... not DVD... I don't know is it's a rebadged LiteOn, but if it is, it's dead, and nothing you can do about it. LiteOns die like this.
 
i just flashed it but now it detects that theres no CD in the drive when i put one in so its dead for sure? seems like all the other functions like spin up sorta works, eject, the laser thing moving.
 
i guess my burner is dead since the laser doesnt work or i think it doesnt. It spins up right when i close the drive so im guessing its checking if theres a disk but if it doesnt get any info it says theres no CD and stops. Am i supposed to be able to see a light of any kind? or is it invisible?

I guess its time to buy a new CD drive, any recommendations? I guess ill go with a DVD burner this time since its cheap. Is the NEC one that everyones getting good? is there a reason i should wait on buying a burner? I dont know anything about DVD burners someone help me out plz.
 
you said you Flashed it, didn't you? and just after that your cd-rw stopped working. well, if it was happened to you, then my advice is to get a previous Firmware and flashed it again. altough you'd better check out the cdrom-guide.com forums, they are more expert in this topic.
 
The burner was broken so i thought maybe something went wrong with the firmware or something so i just flashed it incase. i also installed a new mobo/cpu/ram asus P4T 1.5 a few days ago so maybe i needed new firmware but didnt change anything. I think the laser is just broken.
