This never happened to me before. Today I left computer on while watching TV. Then I went to shut down computer. A message came up saying there is another user loged on to my computer. I immediately shut it down. I think probably one of neighbors hacked into my computer thru my wireless connection.

What can I do to prevent this? Should I turn on firewall, change logon password, etc?

I would definately enable your firewall if you have a WiFi connection and/or if you don't have a router. And they probably logged on with the Administrator account so you should change the password on it.

You might also want to, if you haven't already,

1. change your SSID settings or turn it off.
2. enable WEP or WPA encryption (depending on which your router supports)
3. if running windows xp, install a better softwall firewall or even a hardware firewall
4. change your wireless routers admin name and password (default is usually admin, 1234, or something similar)
5. allow access only through MAC addresses

3. How would he install a hardware firewall for XP if NAT would normally be in the router?

I think probably one of neighbors hacked into my computer thru my wireless connection.

You should check your wireless router for any info. I know my Netgear MR814v2 shows the attached devices. If they are still connected, maybe there is a clue in the computer name or something that would help you figure out which neighbor. I'd bet they are within one or two house range at most. Maybe if you know them well enough, you could politely ask. Especially if there are any teenagers in the area, maybe talk to parents or something.

Or just write a generic letter and inform all of your neighbors of the situation, and maybe even a blurb about how hacking is illegal. maybe include printouts of some laws and such.

Better to help educate people than simply temporarily fix the problem for you.

I think your ok by just disabling the default admin account. I watched a video once where 2 guys went driving around and hacked 80% of WiFi's from using the default admin and default password...you wouldn't believe how many people leave this unchanged.

Default password being none. Pretty stupid in my opinion.
