SIMS 2 is really dependent on memory! I takes friggin ages to quit the game! It begins to clear the humongous page file, i hear the HDD crackle ferouciously, and it clears, and clears... i seriously need to get more ram as well!

There's more to the game running like crap than ram, I have a GB and the game runs like crap on my 9800pro / p4b 2.67 (though it does load & quit very quickly).

lmfao! ea is seriously retarded...MOHPA, Sims 2, battlefield games, mohaa, Command and conquer generals, all have at least one expansion, and all work like sh!t...its truly pathetic coding. sims 2 is prolly the best game of the bunch too lol.

Go for the video card upgrade first is my opinion. Hope this helps.

There's something you forgot, the GeForce 4 MX runs only the DX7 effects while a 9000/9200 runs DX8.1 and 9600/Geforce FX runs dX 9.0 effects, so playing the game on high on those cards isn't the same as playing it on high on an MX card. That's why it runs better on your card. There are shaders, bumpmaping and other effects that are only visible on DX8 or higher.

Someone once told me that system memory is slower than video memory correct?

On some of the older cards it might be slower than PC3200 but most cards memory is faster. I know my 6800GT is at 1ghz effective and my memory is around 400mhz.

It's not just a 1Ghz vs 400 Mhz comparison, it's about memory bandwidth, and the new generation cards (X800/6800 series with 256bit memory) have a memory bandwidth that is about 10x the size of the system memory bandwidth.

Actually EA is the publisher for The Sims 2, Maxis is the developer, but as for other games, you're absolutely right, especially in Generals.
