I have a shuttle ak31-a running windows XP. I have been experiencing random freezes while working on the computer. It probably is a hardware problem since the entire system locks up and I cannot move the mouse. I've tried 3 different sticks of RAM so I know that my RAM is okay. I have not tried a new vid card, CPU, or hard drive but I'm not sure those things could be the root of the problem. XP has been detecting new hardware everytime I restart the machine, it has been detecting a "VIA busmaster IDE drivers" and I cannot seem to find the drivers for this anywhere. Could that be causing my system freezes? This has been driving me crazy for a while so any help would be great.

Here is the hardware I am running.
Shuttle AK31A Rev 3.1
Athlon T-Bird 900 /volcano 6 (not overclocking) Could I not have enough cooling?
ATI 3D Rage AGP 16MB Ram
20GB Western Digital 7200rpm
Linksys 10/100 NIC

Here are my bios settings: bios version ak31.2see; In frequency/voltage section: cpu voltage = -.100 (1.64), cpu ratio = default, ddr voltage- auto, (or use manual and 2.6), auto detect dim- enabled, spread spectrum- disabled, cpu clock- 138, in advanced bios features section: virus warning- disabled, in advanced chipset features: ddram clock = host clock, dram timing = manual, sdram cycle length = 2, bank interleave = 4, (trp) = 2T, (tras) = 6T, (trcd) = 3T, dram que = 4, dram command = 2T, agp aperture = 128m, agp mode = 4x, agp driving control = auto, agp fast write = enabled, agp master 1 write = enabled, agp master 1 read = enabled, memory hole = disabled, system bios cachable = enabled, video ram cachable = enabled. pc health status section: cpu warning temp = 53/127 (or could use higher setting) shutdown temp = 60/140. In integrated peripherals section: all at default setting. I use a lower cpu voltage to keep my cpu temps a couple of degrees lower. My desktop case isn't vented well, and even with 2 case fans, runs warmer than most cases. Use the cpu default voltage. If you don't have an amd approved power supply, get one. Check their website and write down names and model numbers. I just got a codegen 350 watt from 800pc for only $24 plus shipping, and it works well. Also check the windows device manager under system in the control panel for any conflicts, which show up as yellow or red exclamation marks next to the driver. Remove these drivers and re-boot and let windows re-install them. Finally, you can try the via 4 in 1 drivers version 4.97, available at the via website. Just type via or via technologies in yahoo or your favorite search engine. When installing, be sure to use the "turbo mode" and enable the ide mode when prompted. Good luck.
