HELP - Shaving, Chin, Ingrown Hairs

Maybe one of you knows the solution to this. No matter what I do, I get ingrown hairs when I shave my chin. Against the grin, with the grain, after a shower, same result. And usually the ingrown hairs also cause acne(?) until they grow longer. So I generally have to resort to trimming it really short instead of shaving it off.

Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of this? Will an electrical razor help? If so, which one's best (causes the least irritation)?

Try shaving with cold water, it made a difference for me.

I eventually switched to an electric razor & don't get them any more.

Are you serious? Cold water? I always though that you were supposed to moisten the beard before shaving. But I WILL give it a try.

Is there any electric razor that you recommend?

Completely serious, use the coldest water you can get out of the tap.

I use a Braun 6520, I'll find you a link.

Here you go

Keep in mind it will take a period of adjustment to get used to an electric, but you can get a pretty decent shave with a good one.

I have the panasonic linear. It is really nice. It can be used wet or dry, same shave with either. I went from a norelco (three blade one) to the linear. Huge difference. But then again, it really depends on your face. I happen to be blessed with really sensitive skin and a thick 5 o'clock shadow every afternoon . If you switch, it will take a month or so for your face to get used to it.

Well, I'll try the cold water trick tomorrow morning, and if it doesn't help I'll order an electric tomorrow night.

You are not giving your face time to heal. You should not shave for a week or so if possible, so that your ingrown hairs can grow out. Then try something new. How often do you change blades?

An electric might not solve your problems.. in fact I always used to get ingrown hairs until I stopped using an electric. I suppose it's worth a shot, though, because ingrown hairs REALLY suck.

you use shaving cream or gel? gel should be better. those 3 blade razors are ok too. atleast for the 2 blade ones, i've found that generic replacement blades suck for some reason.

I totally agree. I'm a big fan of the Mach 3. Has anyone tried the new model yet?

Tuffguy, doesn't you nik make you immune to ingrown hairs, sorry couldn't resist 😀

Anyway, I use those disposable razors, w/ hot water before I take a shower. No ingrown hairs here 🙂

Noxzema Sensitive Skin shaving cream is some good stuff. I can't seem to find it lately, though. Knowing my luck it was probably discontinued. :|
Mach 3 Turbo is a find blade to use with the Noxzema shaving cream.

There is an easy answer to your question, start growing MAN hair. Man hair has no problem pushing through skin, were peach fuzz is not strong enough.

Oh BTW you better change your nickname you must not be a tuffguy if you cant grow Man hair.😀

i did. i haven't shaved the chin in about 2 weeks, all the ingrowns are out. i change blades pretty often. it makes no difference if i shave with a new blade or an old blade.

edge gel. the only thing i've used for the past 5 years.

i always shower first, then after i dry off i splash some cold water on my face and just shave like that, the shower water softens the hair i find. The only place i ever get an ingrown hair is on the corner of my mouth where they're really thin. very annoying :| ever thought about waxing it?
