Does the Mac use AUI? (Are they still doing that?) If so, you'll need a tranceiver that converts ethernet (RJ45) to AUI, and a cable that runs from the tranceiver to the Mac.

AUI? the mac has a ethernet card, so a RJ45 cable can actually fit from it. ........ anyone else?

WHat router or modem are you using.... I arent all that good on a mac but I would think that the IP's & gateway would work close to the same... I personally have a cisco 675 router plugged into my hub & I would think that I could get anything plugged into my hub to work...

DannyLove,

It's a Mac. If it were a real computer, I could give you DETAILS.

have my DSL modem linked to my Ethernet card, and have another card connected to my HUB, and then on port 1 go over to the MAC, using the NAT32 software???? anyone!

Nope
Just get the router- set for dhcp
set the mac for dhcp
Goto AppleMenu-Control Panel-Tcp/ip

Set for Dhcp save-

and it should be up and running

Anything Else?

DHCP,baby. Like CvAgent said. Works like a charm on my mixed Win98, Win2k, Linux, Macintosh network.

Is your setup PPPoE?

I know for a fact that my local DSL provider's modems will assign two IP addresses even though they say they won't, using the same account. So with a simple hub all you have to do is install the standard PPPoE software and it works - doesn't matter if it's Mac or PC. It's no different than using one computer. However, it's a Nortel modem and is limited to two computers, and I know other DSL providers will block this. YMMV.

As for TCP/IP for internet connections on a Mac through a router, it's simply setting it for DHCP and TCP/IP and everything works fine. But a router is $$. Dunno about setting up one computer as a gateway, but I suppose you could always try it and see what happens.

File sharing is a completely different kettle of fish though.

you can stick a second nic in your computer run internet connection sharing (or just share the connection in win2k) and manually setup tcp-ip on his computer... yer computer will have to be on all the time tho. i setup my sister's mac to my ICS on both 98 and 2000, 2000 works MUCH better.
