my friend says/thinks that the people that work at bestbuy get 80% off the merchandise in the store as a discount. Anyone that has worked there care to say if this is true (which i doubt).

thanks

Oh i did many many times, he just wont beleive me or all our friends that think he is retarded

i know its higher than any other place... (but this was like 3 years ago when i knew someone that worked there)

as of right now i know everyone is being a tight ass.. so i DOUBT it...

80% would result in them becoming millionaires after a few months of reselling on ebay...
Stupid for him to think so...

It is possible that employees get 80% off the store's markup.

There are some items that you might get 80% off of (speaker wire, cables, adaptors, etc), but you would never get that much of a discount off of a major item (computer, tv, video game system, etc).

Also, you think he's just messing with you?

ohh no no he isnt kessing he is tottaly serious, he has done this before with other things, happens all the time its like he doesnt live in the same universe

it IS %5 above cost.

The only things you get really good discounts on are Car Audio, cables, wires, and crap like that. These items are marked up the most.

hahahaha 80%
best buy workers gets warehouse prices on certain items. as far as computers, hard drives, video card, etc. they get very little off of those. Consoles, workers get practically none off of those. I know that a best buy employee can get a XBOX s controller for 26 bucks, wow 3.99 off. However, they do get lucky breaks once in a while. For example, open items.

Last I heard, it was cost plus 5%.

This sounds close.

It really depends on the item as to how much to get off.
Video game systems for example: you get nothing off. There is no markup on them.
CDs: usually the discount covers tax plus a buck or two.
Computers: No discount. Most items sold near cost.
Appliances, furniture, video, and audio: you get a decent discount.

But, the winner is Car Fi.
Markup in car audio can be as much as 300% and a best buy employee will pay no where near that. At one time i had a $4k stereo in my car that I only paid about 1200 for.
