It might have been filtered straight to your spam. I almost didn't read mine because it had a trash icon beside it. Lucky i did though.

Just won a small price in a lottery. All of it went to Seti@Home.
I'll do this now and then - let's see where that goes ...
Good on both of 'ya. Glad to see everyone's helping out.

edit: fixed

By the way guys, can you plz bump this thread and/or post for a sticky if you notice it falling down the list.

OTOH you just PM the mods - very simple ...
Edit: PM sent.
OK, thanks for sending that.

Just one question for future reference: how do i find out who a mod is so i can message them?

Thanks again,
RoD

just find some mod posty, like in FS/FT or hot deals and PM them. i think its kind of a general PM box they have.

or of course, you could add them to your buddy list 🙂 keep an ey one them 😛

Damn straight that's impressive. My US$25 seems sorta insignificant... But hey if everyone doing S@H (100,000+ppl) gave $25 each...

I think it would be better to link to the donation page in the first post. To be honest, I got bored of opening new windows to donate. I did in the end, but it was very off putting.

Thanks for the bumps.

Shux: I dunno why they don't have paypal - i think they're just using a generic template for the donations. I would offer to accept paypal and donate from my CC, but I don't think many ppl are gonna give money to someone they don't know.

Have they ever tried to ask for money from the electricity providers? I mean, how much extra money have they made and how much money are they still making just because people let their PCs run for SETI? Millions of $? Would be a nice gesture to give some of that profit back to SETI. I don't know the names of US electricity companies (is GE one?) but in my mind that would be a nice option for sponsoring. And in the end, the companies will regain their money to a certain extent, as with SETI going on people will still have their PCs crunch and use electrcity.

Just my 2 cents 🙂

Wow man, awesome idea. I'm not in the US either, so I don't know the power companies, but thats a good point.

What do the rest of you think?

That's a great idea. Or even some kind of discount (tax time, electrical bill, etc) for those that are running SETI.

Hey all,
I got a new e-mail from S@H. Here's the important bit:
Dear Rodney Louden,

On behalf of the entire SETI@home team, I would like to thank you for your generous donation of $25.00 to the SETI@home project. This is an exciting time for SETI@home, as we embark on several new ventures in our search for extraterrestrial intelligence, a pursuit that author and futurist Arthur C. Clarke has called "the most important quest of our time."

We first released SETI@home to the public on May 17th, 1999. In the seven years since the project started, we have constantly strived to improve the way we analyze the data we collect with the Arecibo Radio Telescope. We recently turned off SETI@home Classic, and our direct involvement with the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) has ensured that SETI@home remains at the forefront of the distributed computing industry.

We believe the best is yet to come. A new version of SETI@home called SETI@home Enhanced is about to be released. This new version improves our sensitivity to extraterrestrial radio signals by a factor of at least 30. Moreover, a second-generation SETI@home data recorder will be installed on the Arecibo Radio Telescope in the spring of 2006. This data recorder will allow us to perform SETI searches at seven points on the sky at once, using a powerful multi-beam receiver.

You can read more about these projects and other exciting developments on our website: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - we have come this far because of ongoing support from people like you.

Best Regards,

Dan Werthimer
Chief Scientist, SETI@home
