help!! serial ata

I have an NF7-s ver 2.0 mobo
It has a serial ata controller
I need to buy a hard disk drive and I m interested in buying a sata drive
can a single drive be connected to the sata controller? (cause I dont want to buy 2 drives right now)
or it is like raid, ie at least 2 drives must be connected either in striped or mirrored mode?

Yes - OK to just have one SATA drive.

I've read several posts where people are having problems with long boot times because the bios will look for a second drive for a looooong time. Might want to research a little before you buy.

I have a sony dvd drive hooked up to the sata controller in my nf7-s. I haven't had any boot up problems... it takes about 3 seconds longer... no biggy unless you reboot your system every 5 min.
