help selecting amd processor

hi,

I want to upgrade to a new AMD processor. What's the best amd processor to overclocked?

I heard the Barton 2500+ is pretty good.

which one overclock better, OEM or retail?

Off Topic to CPU/Processors and Overclocking, Off Topic to CPU/Processors and Overclocking, we have a situation here. Clean up in thread 1189737.

I'm running a 2500+ overclocked to a 3000+ with an SLK-800 heatsink. I've built a number of systems for friends off of the 2500+ and have not received any complaints. 🙂

ups

there is no difference in overclocking potential between retail and OEM, but since there is such a small difference in price i would get retail

DO not get a 2500. the new bartons are multiplier locked. Get an athlon xp 1700 tbred b, or something. or get a 2600+ tbred B, both overclock like mad and run cool and are cheap.

Well I was going to say "Bah! - so what if they're multiplier locked" because you could just run PC3200 memory and have an instant XP3200+, but then I saw your system specs.

Your 1.5gigs of PC2700 probably won't be reach a 200Mhz FSB. So unless you swap that memory for something faster (ahh, get a new mb too!)....Ahh what am I talking about? Your running a T-Bred @ 2.2Ghz now? It seem you are in an interesting situation because I don't know if you would really see a huge difference even running a XP 2500+ right out of the box @ 166FSB?
