Help retrieving data from HP laptop

Hi,

I am trying to retrieve data from my HP Pavillion dv6000z laptop which recently crashed, using a 2.5" HD to 3.5" IDE Hard Drive HDD Adapter (40-pin male connector on one end and a 44-pin female connector for the laptop HDD on the other end). However the Toshiba HDD (2.5" SATA Drive) in my laptop does not have the pin configuration which will fit the adapter.

That's a Serial ATA interface, so just connect it to a SATA controller and power cable. Be careful not to break the connector off the drive, they're not unbreakable. If your computer doesn't have a SATA controller :camera:, you can buy one which goes in a PCI slot: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16815124006

Once the drive is connected, you may need to go into Disk Management to assign it a drive letter. Start > Run > compmgmt.msc and go down to Disk Management :camera:.
