I've just joined the forums. I've learned a lot by reading here. Unfortunately, I joined because I'm trying to get my first build working and it's really a struggle.
All the parts went together fine. Computer booted up ok once I replaced the CMOS battery. My problem has been installing Windows and programs, things that are supposed to be easy. I had to install Windows a couple times because it would crash or hang during install. Programs won't install because of bad CRCs or checksums; it takes several tries or they simply don't install.
The last straw: I downloaded a large program on my old PC, burned it to CDR, and tried to install it on my new PC. Wouldn't work, bad checksum. Downloaded same large program from same website again (another 3 hours) directly to new PC. Wouldn't work, bad checksum. Today, I tried to install program from CDR onto third computer. Install went fine, no errors, so the first download and CD burn are fine.
On the new PC I've run MemTest86 with no errors, and checked for viruses and malware. Everything tests ok. Not sure what to try next. I'm not even sure if the problem is with the motherboard, hard drive, or RAM. And since I'm the systems integrator, it looks like it's up to me to figure it out. So suggestions are welcome. Should I try using one stick of RAM to see if it makes a difference? Maybe one is bad?
