Help removing RAM

I've got to temporarily remove a 1GB stick of ram from one computer to transplant it into another. Both computers seemed to be working fine for a day or so, but suddenly the one that originally had 2GB gave me a blue screen on power up about a problem attempting to write to read-only memory. (I reset power and it worked fine this time, but... it clearly isn't stable.)

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I'm guessing that pagefile.sys might have to do with the problem? Am I supposed to delete it or reset it or something?

There should be absolutely no problem with removing a memory module, no changes should need to be made to the OS or any files to accomodate it. Windows will automatically handle any size changes for the pagefile based on the amount of memory installed.

If you get the error again, get the exact text of it. You can also try something like Memtest86+ to verify that the memory isn't damaged.

Check the manual for your motherboard to see if they specify which RAM slots should be used for various combinations of sticks. You could also try swapping the sticks between the machines. One of them may not be stable in the machine that's giving you problems.
