Help Removing P4 Heat Sink/Fan

OK, what's the secret 🙂 I'm struggling to get the heat sink/fan off my P4. I moved the levers to unlock it, but can't get it up?

From what I've read, twist it before taking it off, or it might rip the whole thing out of the socket.

if you have removed all the levers, you just need to apply a little of your super-strength to pull it off, it's prolly being held by thermal paste, or a sticky pad. 🙂 And I don't see why you would have to twist it, wouldnt that put force onto the pins?

I know from experience that when I tried to just pull off the heatsink on my A64, it ripped the cpu right out of the socket and bent a few pins. Needless to say, I freaked out. 🙂

Pull it hard, it may come off with the processor attached, but no need for alarm unless the processor doesn't come off in one piece! :Q

You can use a screwdriver to gently pry the CPU away from the HS.

Cheers!

WOAH...

here's what I do.

There's a plastic casing that houses the fan and the levers. This attaches probably to the plastic harnes on the motherboard. You should probably unsnap the plastic casing from the harness on the motherboard, then lift it off from the mobo. Be careful not to move it around too much. You don't want to dmg the cpu by bashing it with the heatsink.
