Currently I have an old Linksys 802.11b router that only supports WEP encryption. Recently I've added a lot of wireless capable devises to my network and would like to upgrade my router. MY current setup is as follows 1 wired client (my main PC) and 6+ wireless devices (2 laptops, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, IMac, I think a PDA). Note these aren't all mine, but collectively owned by me and the family, I'm not that rich 😉. Obviously most of these aren't connected at the same time, in fact usually there is no more than 2 connections at any one time rarely 3. The new router must have the following features:
I've read reviews of several routers but nothing has really stood out so far. Thanks for suggestions!
- Good Security, at least WPA of some form
- Good signal strength, the game consoles and my laptop are all in the basement while the router is upstairs. Currently they can all connect but they can be slow sometimes
- 802.11g/b/a compatible. Not too interested in Draft N given all the problems and the fact that it isn't really a set standard
- Full featured, I'm no network wizard but manually configuring a network doesn't scare me and I don't want to be hand tied
- Ability to handle several clients gracefully, again probably no more than 3 at a time but the more the better
