The Dark Knight

Seen it too recently and I hear the Blu-Ray transfer was one of the worst.
The IMAX filmed segments look good, the rest....don't.

well, compared to the DVD, the BD is probably better, though the 35mm sequences (80% of the film) that were used for the IMAX presentation were filtered to all hell so they wouldn't stand out as much in the IMAX theaters. This is the version that was used for BD, so that filtering is inherent in the stock, supposedly.

I do believe the version transferred to DVD is the normal theatrical release (maintains 2.35:1 AR throughout), and so technically, shouldn't have all of that same filtering applied. But for whatever reason, it has been reported to look absolutely dreadful.

I don't mind TDK on my 42" Plasma. I could barely tolerate it on my bro's 52" LCD. Your mileage may vary, of course... ;)

Had I never found AVSforums (regardless of the TDK thread), I probably would have never started noticing the things I now notice. Though, simply spending enough hours with BD will really sour your taste to SD. I find many DVDs unwatchable now :(

Agreed. Seems amazing how we marvelled at the quality of DVD not too too long ago.

Damn....7-11 must pay good.

Also I'm not much of a fan of the emo-ness of the movie but I saw The Nightmare Before Christmas in Blu-ray and DAMN is all I can say. Looked like one of the best Blu-ray movies I've ever seen.

first time I have heard Nightmare Before Christmas being referred to as emo.

Yeah, the term is wildly imprecise as a description of the movie. I saw it and helpfully translated "emo" in my head to "lacks car chases and Steven Segal."

I guess you haven't seen the millions and millions of kids that wear tight pants with eyeliner, dress in all back, and have nightmare before christmas stuff all over themselves.

Definitely Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, so awesome. Shoot 'em Up is fun as well.

Yeah KB does look stunning. I keep thinking that Tarantino is about to make a real stinker of a film soon but so far he hasn't disappointed with his brilliance. Though I never saw Daeth Proof. His films are always so over the top, barely contained, that I can't help but feel he's going to make a horror show one of these days.

Edit Saw Pan's Labyrinth on BD. Seen it before but still an amazing movie. At first I was a bit disappointed by the TVs performance with my older cable box (even in HD) but I've since tweaked a few things and after watching the movie wow!! Amazing colour saturation, sharpness, everything!
