Help: Radeon 8500 -> DVI-to-DVI Cable -> LCD == no display in Win2k

Help! I've tried everything I can think of to get my LCD flatpanel monitor (sony sdm-81) to work with my Radeon 8500 (64meg built by ati) card using a DVI to DVI cable (belkin) under Windows 2000.

Does anyone have any inside information on getting this configuration to work? Currently, I must use a DVI to VGA adaptor or the manufacturer supplied VGA to DVI cable supplied with the monitor.

Symptom:
Using the DVI to DVI cable, I am able to see bootup and bios screens on my lcd monitor, and everything up to the windows 2000 load screen with the small progress bar at the center bottom. But as soon as the actual desktop should display, the monitor turns dim with warning of 'No Input'.

Can anyone please help me?

Probably just have to boot into safe mode and set the resolution to something your monitor supports, and reboot.

My monitor supports the resolution it is set to display... 1280x1024. This is also the actual resolution of this particular lcd monitor (sony sdm-81).

does it support the refresh rate?
i seem to recall that most lcds dont go over ~65-70 hz.
did you install the monitor inf?

The refresh rate is set to 70hz, as it only allows 60 or 70hz in the display properties for the adaptor/monitor. I have the inf file from Sony.com for the flatpanel monitor also, and windows has dientified the monitor make and model in the display properties also.

But does a DVI to DVI cable work in safe mode? if so, then your problem has to be a resolution/refresh rate problem. Make sure you have installed the ATI drivers/utilities. Go to display properties, click the settings tab, then click Advanced. There is probably something in the Advanced side of things that needs to be tweaked. I have an ATI Radeon VE 32MB card, and under the Advanced section, I have a tab called Displays that has the ATI logo on it. When I click it, I have 4 different categories for displays listed: 2 are just listed as monitor (since this is a dual-display card), TV, and FPD. All but 1 monitor is greyed out since I'm only using 1 display currently, but you may have a problem that needs to be fixed there. That would be my best guess. Hope this helps!

I've been under that subtabbed in Advanced properties. When I hook up another monitor (regular vga CRT) to the video card's analog output, and my LCD monitor to the DVI output using the DVI-DVI cable, it shows up in the advanced properties properly.

Problem is, the regular CRT is the only screen that is active and displaying. The LCD screen is still blank. Advanced properties actually displays 2 CRTs active, and the TV and FPD are greyed out. Windows even goes so far as to autodetect the new hardware and ask for the inf file for my sony lcd.

Its really quite odd.
