Help - Question on USB 2.0 v. 1.1

I'm rather new to the technical side...I purchased a new PC and I know that the PC supports USB 2.0. I also purchased a 17" Dell 1703FP, which has 4 USB ports and also supports USB 2.0. I thought that I had everything setup correctly but that doesn't appear to be the case. I have a Lexar JumpDrive Elite 256M USB 2.0 keychain drive which the PC will not recognize for some reason when I plug it into the monitor USB ports - I know that the USB ports on the monitor work because I have a couple of other devices running off of them. Also, the Jumpdrive will work on the Enhanced controller when I plug it into a USB port on the back of the tower. Any thoughts on what my problem might be? Could it be a cable problem?

Also, I keep getting this message when I turn off my monitor and then turn it back on:

"The Generic USB Hub is a HI-SPEED USB device and will function at a reduced speed when plugged into a non-HI-SPEED port."

I was under the impression that all of the USB ports on the PC were USB 2.0?

Thanks for the input - I'm learning...

Is the monitor hub "self powered"? Many flash drives need more power than a hub without its own power supply will deliver.

Well, yes I suppose it is. The only power supply to the monitor is the primary power cable - no secondary cabling. That would make sense. Thanks.

If I am not mistaken MS Windows XP only supports USB 1.1, and supports USB 2.0 with the updates (SP1 and therefore 2). You might want to make sure that you have the latest drivers from Dell for the monitor. So a simple windows update and visit to Dell's support site might do the trick. I have an external HD and it gives me the same story every single time I reinstall XP, until I update it.

I think the problem is that the USB ports on your monitotr supply less power that your USB device needs.
Try use USB HUB with additional power,it will be much better

Of course,Windows XP must be updated to SP1(Windows 2000 must be updated to SP4) so as to support USB 2.0

I do have XP SP2 but haven't tried to update the drivers from Dell. I'll give it a shot. And, yes, I think you're right re: the lower HUB power issue - I didn't even think about that in my initial post.

The feedback is greatly appreciated.
