what's the application (i.e. what are you going to do with them?)?

using them mostly for chatting for personal usage with video and sound

in that case, any should do. i have an old IBM PC Camera and had an external mic from somewhere (been so long, i don't remember). my dad recently wanted us to start vid conf so he could talk to his grandson. so i picked him up a cheapie open box item at Best Buy. i added an external mic for another $10 (the Pro version of the cam had an internal mic, but it cost less to buy an external, which i figured would work better anyway).

now, both of us are on cable connections behind NAT routers (SMC). because of that, we can't get NetMeeting to work (our routers cannot forward ports dynamically). so, i've been searching for god software to run the conferences on. found eyeball chat and it's been working okay so far. still looking for others (espeically one that will do a multi-party where everyone can see everyone else).
