HELP: PSU has 24-pin connector and the motherboard has 20-pin

Hi guys, my first time on this forums.

So I was about to give my motherboud some power when I saw that the input on the motherboard has only 20-pins and the connector from the PSU is 24-pins. Do you know if I can use it anyways? It doesn´t fit as it is now, but if I cut off four of the pins I think it will fit. Please help me.
 
Welcome to the ATF! You don't want to cut anything! You can get a 24 to 20 pin adapter (should have come with your PSU, actually) anywhere thay sell cables and adapters for PCs. Check SVC (they will mail first class on small purchases/light weight items - saves a lot on shipping but you have to assume the shipping risk as they ship those uninsured - as the extra $1.30 would defeat the purpose), computergate, cablestogo, dalco, etc. They are all .COMs...

Thanks for your fast reply. I'd buy a converter if I could just fint one here in sweden. Bying one from the an outside country takes alot of time and costs almost as much as a new PSU. I´ve been doing some research though, and I beleive that the first 20-pins of the 24-pin connector is the same.

Here is a comparison between the a8n-sli deluxe and the K8N motherboard connectors. I,ve flipped the map of the K8N to match it's layout to the A8N-SLI Deluxe.

The 20 first pins seems to be the sameso I ask again, would it be wise to cut those for pins?
 
Last I checked, Sweden is not a third-world country 😛. Go to an electronics or computer store and buy an adapter cable... you do NOT want to be sawing your connectors apart.
 
I've been checking the biggest stores and have just found adaptors that switch the other way. I'll be making some calls tommorrow though and check it out.
 
Cant read your diagram. has a .txt extension but doesn't look like any .txt file I've ever seen...

For the record, 20 of the 24 pins are electrically identical to a standard 20-pin cable. If there's room for the extra four to just hang out in open air, that might be a workaround for you. Reference image I made for a board with a 24-pin fitting and then tacked on a 20-pin fitting's pinout to show the crossover:

No big deal
You can take a hacksaw blade and saw out the tiny plastic strip 2 rows back from the 23-24 end so it slips over the mb connector. As long as you have room around the connector on the mb. If you don't have the room around the mb connector, you can cut the last 4 off as a group, but not the wires and tie it up out of the way. Be sure to match pin 1 on both the mb and the ps connector. It works well, that's how you are getting this reply.
The 24 pin psu has been in use for a long time for server boards and are generally better quality psu. The one I use came in a server case and has a better chrome finish than most Harley's
 
Mine works fine with a 20pin PS plugged into the 24pin socket with no adapter. You just leave the four pins closest to the graphics card(s) open. The four pins you leave open are 12v,5v,3v,GND, extra power leads. I've tested with and without the EZplug with 1GPU and works fine

I was going to say you could just cut a notch in the shell to fit over the end of the mobo connector as mentioned above, but then I realized that the little latch won't line up so thermal cycling could eventually push the connector out... So IMO, a proper adapter is still the way to go. But some hot glue could solve the latch misalignment problem 😉 ...
