I bought a new Enermax Galaxy 850W PS. I am having two problems -

1 - Two black wires were not firmly crimpted to the molex connector on the "main" (24 pin) connector. It is pin #15. I cannot seem to get the pin out to recrimp. Any suggestions?

2 - I noticed that another "pin" is completely empty (has no wire feeding it). It is pin #20, which according to the reference I found is supposed to be a white wire with -5V. There is no unconnected white wire that I could find. Is this a problem?

Thanks for quick response. I'm trying to get this put back together today!

1. Are both black wires still connected to pin 15? If so, don't worry about it.
2. Motherboards no longer use -5v power. Some psu manufacturers have just stopped including it in the harness. I guess Enermax is one of them.

Thanks myocardia for the quick response!

No - one of the black wires was completely unattached and the other came out as I was fiddling trying to figure out where the unattached wire was supposed to go.

I DID get the molex out (a little firm pressure with a jewelers screwdriver and it popped out). I am going to recrimp. Should I solder? I think I won't unless it is still lose after crimping.

BTW - I am not 100% sure that the other black wire came from this pin (although all the rest seem secure). Since its all ground anyway, is it safe to put it on pin 15 even if it wasn't the original pin? BTW, the black wire that I'm not sure about is about 1/2 the diameter of the other black wire. There are only a couple of thin wires like that in the connector.

Thanks again!

I'd personally solder, but I solder everything. If the wires can't be pulled out, after you recrimp them, then they're fine. And yeah, since it's a ground, it's safe to put it there. I'm sure it came from there to begin with. Alot of ground wires on the 20/24 pin ATX connectors have two wires for one pin like that.

I crimped them and they are tight. I ran a quick test and power supply seems fine (nice and quiet!), but still modding my new case so haven't set it up with all the drives yet.

Thanks again!
