hello all, I just installed a 7800 GTX on my system and it killed my OC

here are my specs

DFI ultra D
3000+ winchester
7800 GTX
2X512 mb of Twinmos UTT in dual channel
seagate 300 GB
500W ultra X-connect

my system was identical to this one expect i had a x800xl in there.

with the x800xl, i was able to be prime stable @ 280*9 w/ 1.6v

now, i cant even boot into windows @ 250*9

is it due to the extra power the GTX is consuming???

any other suggestions for OCing this config?

thanx

Have you tried going back to the x800xl just to check if it's the video card that affected your overclock? Have you tried going over 250HTT with the 7800GTX (by using a lower CPU multi)?

I'd guess it's either the PSU, the heat (which I doubt, by the way) or your video card not working well with HTT over 250 for some reason.

500W ultra X-connect
The Ultra X-Connects have gotten, uh, mixed reviews from their users. I would pull my $500 video card outta there right away and get a new PSU on order. TruePower II 550W, PC Power & Cooling 510SLI, or another good-quality 500W+ unit (Fortron, Enermax, Seasonic) is what I'd be using. Just my 2¢ worth...

i havent reverted back to the ati card yet, i guess i will try that when i get a chance

i tried going over 250 but with the stock multipler, i'll give it a shot with the lower multipler

i dont think its the heat. i have a XP-120 cooling the cpu ( low 30's idle, high 30's low 40's load), and the GPU is idling at low 40 and low 60s load (which is pretty good for the gtx)

hey mechBgon, good too see you around

my x-connect has been rock stable for me. my idle voltage are 4.99, 3.32, 11.96

i would go ahead and buy a new PSU but i have a neopower at home and i dont want to spend more money knowing that there is a perfectly good PSU at home (unfortunately, i'm 350 miles away ATM)

Ultra-X has a VERY mixed following at best. They are not liked at all at Xtremesystems.Org.......

I would buy a better PSU. Alphabetically listed:

Antec, (AOpen/Conrad/Zalman/FSP/Fortron/SPI/Sparkle are all/mostly all FSP), OCZ, PC Power and Cooling (some are FSP) or Seasonic.
