I have a problem with seagate barracuda 20gig 5400rpm.
I recently have uninstalled windows millenium and when I tried to install win98
It gave a message of the restore dir,but I just cancelled out because I thought it would be gone if I just format the drive again,I booted with a startup disk.I then tried to format at dos prompt,it starts the format and carries on till about 4% or maybe a little more and then the format terminates by itself,in other words it wont let me format.
But if I format the drive in windows it will format and I can copy files to it and retrieve the data, but i still cant install an os on the drive.I have also tried breaking the partitions and making smaller ones etc. but when I try and format at the dos prompt it terminates after just a few percent.

this is the message:FORMAT TERMINATED

is this because of the restore dir, and how can I repair this drive
