HELP PLZ!!!!!!

Ok heres what's going on. I am working on my computer and it randomly shuts off. I am like "wow that's wierd". So I turn it back on and nothing happens. I try again and again and again. Nothing. Finally I turn it on and get a black screen saying "Computer shut down due to thermal problem.".

So it works again for awhile and it shuts off again. I got fed up and opened up the case. I look around for a while and notice that the heatsink on the CPU is half way off. I fasten the heatsink and turn it back on. NOTHING!. Not even the screen turns on.

Did my CPU go? What are the symptoms if a CPU is not working?

I also had a small fan in there before it went down (not a computer fan, a regular fan for a home). It is a small metal 4'' fan that I set on the bottom of the case. This fan was nowhere near the cpu but it was next to my graphic card.

I played a game for 2 hours with the fan running and no problems. But then this started happening. I took the fan out again and am just trying to get my computer to turn on now. I would be happy with any help. thanks sooo much!
