Help Plz!!! My Photoshop is going crazy!!!

When i load up photoshop and try to use the marque tool i get this error message :

"Warning: No Pixels are more than 50% selected. The selection will not be visible."

now, i did some investigating and some people are saying that lowering your feathering setting does the trick, but this does not seem to work for me. I had it at 100 and now 5 and i still get the same problem. i really could use some help and any suggestions would be much appericated.
