help pls...cpu temps after crash

Had a small tragedy...asus p5k deluxe..6750 c2d...2 gb crucial ballistix ram..msi 1950pro vid...processor locked up at 100% and I could not regain control. Shut off computer and never able to boot again. Trip to comp shop had bad mb, bad ram. 6 weeks later, asus returned the mb, new ram from crucial at the shop...coretemps showing ~60..tried the mild oc..failure again...this time the vid card...more waiting

Back home...vid card returned...basic bios setup..NO oc. Pull off tuniq tower...use articlean and apply artic silver 5 per their instructions...1 line down middle of chip. One minute of prime95>60c in coretemp.

I am stumped. I run the case open, tuniq at full rpm...idling now at 35c but the moment I stress the cpu, temps shoot up to I'm getting scared.

I've been heat cycling..run prime95 til 60c and then stop...hoping it would settle down.

Previously I ran prime95 overnite and never hit 50c. Any suggestions are WELCOMED!!!

use a different method to apply thermal compound? I use AS5 right now because i got a huge 12gram tube of it to use up, but I find it to be extremely viscous and requires a lot to spread properly unless I spread it myself prior. I use a credit card or a straight razor to apply it in the thinnest layer possible without scraping through to the metal directly, leaving just enough to fill the cracks on the cooler and CPU surface. I am currently looking around for a replacement compound to use so I dont have to spend half an hour applying thermal compound and another 15 minutes removing it from the cracks in my HDT coolers (Xig S1283 & OCZ Vendetta2)

ed: also, make sure the cooler itself is bolted properly. If it isnt putting proper pressure on the CPU it could result in lackluster cooling performance. when I transfered my old mobo/cpu/cooler all at once into a new case for my new rig to go in my armor case, i handled the whole setup a lot by the cooler (OCZ Vendetta2), which is mounted to a 939 socket A64 4000+ on an Evga NF47 Ultra SLI board with a backplate. the temps went from 18-20c idle to about 27c in an equal room temperature room. will probably go to town on it with arcticlean, a soft brush, and a bit of compressed air to get everything out of the cracks again and remount it properly. CPU is lapped to copper and it's only a 44W TDP chip, so this thing should run basically at ambient temps with that cooler on it

When the shop reattached the fan, I had asked them to reapply the as5. They said already enuff compound on the cpu! That didn't make any sense to me...not cleaning and applying a new coat. So I wasn't extremely surprised at the hi temps at the shop.

But after I re applied the as5 per the as instructions...thin bead down middle of the chip...I was worried.

Tuniq in my case is a pain to mount. I turned the mounting screws down equally until they were tuff to turn...don't want to crack the chip. I also reoriented the tuniq so the heat pipes are east/west...that was my memory prior to the meltdown.

I'll try the old way next...sacrifice biz card and do a lite coat over the entire surface and retighter the screws.
