Hi everyone,
I just recently bought a new Nvidia GeForce 9800 gtx. It worked fine for one night but now I am experiencing framerate issues and game freezing. I'm running a HP Pavilion with an AMD 64 x2 Dual Core 4200+ processor with 250GB hard drive and 1024MB of memory on Windows XP service pack 2 and Direct X 9.0. I've updated all my Nvidia drivers. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if there is any other system info that you need. Thank you very much.

Edit: Oh yeah, Playing at 1280x768 reoslution on a 27" LCD monitor via VGA connection.

Check to see if power supply is too weak. If so, get something like the Antec Earthwatts 430W for $30 after rebate from newegg.

the Earthwatts can't power a 9800GTX. They lack the second PCI-E connector.

Yeah, I'd wager it's the power supply, OEM computers always skimp hardcore on the PSU.

It can if you use the adapter that comes with the video card.

I upgraded my power supply when I installed the new card. I'm using a BFG tech 650 power supply. I believe my issue was hard drive related though. Shortly after I posted this I started gettin fatal exception errors on windows start up, but I could not read the error because the system immediately tried to reboot and the same thing happened again. The I started getting a NTLDR missing error message. I did a system recovery to factory setting and I think everything is working ok now. I'm in the process of re-installing my games and patching now, so I haven't had a chance to test it yet. Will keep you posted. Thank you all for the help.

Good luck. Those fatal exceptions could've been memory or driver related, but NTLDR missing is more serious. Hopefully your recovery has replaced any corrupt files on the HDD.

OK after the system recovery and re-installing the drivers, game, etc., it worked fine again for a little while then the framerate and freezing issues started happening again. On my last attempt, I received this error message:

d:\dev-env\build\branch_live\code\common\cheetah\gui\DXUTStripped.cpp (10899)

Internal driver error. - 0x88760827

*sigh* it keeps getting better and better. Did a system recovery....again....and there is now 5 sectors on my hard drive that are unreadable and I'm getting a System Configuration error message when windows tries to start up. Didn't give much detail, it just prompted me to contact hp customer care (comp is out of warranty) and it a gave a code purple. Any clues?
