Ok so I was just watching some videos on my computer (TFT - HP PAVILION F1723) then all of a sudden.. there was no warning.. my monitor just didn't work, as in it just went completely black.

So obviously.. I restarted, but that didnt fix the problem. Altough after it opens and I get to the desktop, I can actually see the icons and everything. The problem is that it is very very very VERY faint, I have to shine a lamp directly into it in order to see it.

So I had this spare monitor and pluggged it in for now, and thankfully it works.

But what is the problem with the other one, I have been using this substitute for almost a week now.. Should I try plugging old one in again to see if the bulb has started working again or something. Is there any other way around this? Have you everu had this problem?

I cant take it back since I've had it for over a year and it is not in the warranty. Must I buy a new one now?

Please help.

Sounds like the backlight went. I checked up on your monitor (HP PAVILION F1723) and it's discontinued according to HP, but you should still be able to get a replacement backlight for it. Kind of weird that it'd go so soon though... I mean, I've had my LCD for longer than that (and use it quite often), and mine still runs like a champ.

I doubt your back lights are bad. The transformer that feeds voltage to them is probably

kaput. It could be an easily replaced ceramic capacitor or a little more difficult electrolytic

capacitor. It could be a cold solder joint, common on Sony CRTs.

Thier server is down ATM but give these guys a look http://www.repairmylcd.com/

Ok thanks guys...

and Aikouka, How much would that cost?

Since I had asked someone before he said its probably cheaper to get a new monitor... does that seem right?
