I have just built my first Computer I have a CPU AMD 64 |3400+ ATHLON 64 on a MB GIGABYTE GA-K8NS Ultra-939 with 1GB DDRAM |DDR400 PC3200. I also have a new SATA 120 GB Hard Drive from Maxtor. I am using my old computers DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW Drives, The floppy disk drive and the old video card.

I have everythin installed correctly and it starts up and I could enter my bios and cmos setup screen. Then when I setup my general safe settings and select "save and exit" the computer saves the settings and then exits, but it doesnt exit to anything. My monitor turns black and after a few minutes comes up with a "Monitor not connected warning". I then turn off the computer and by holding the switch. When I turn the computer back on it gives me the same warning.

I thought i might have set something up wrong in my cmos. So I reset it by taking the battery out. Then tried to startup again and it came backup to my boot screen. I tried to install XP but when it came time to restart the computer it did the same thing again. The only way to get it to work again is to pull the cmos battery.

There are no beeps except for the very first time that says it started correctly.

Can someone help?

I received this combo yesterday, and like everyone else I couldn't get the machine to boot unless I cleared the CMOS. I remember reading somewhere that the A64 3400+ socket 939 runs at 800Mhz unlike the rest of the socket 939 chips. After clearing the CMOS and rebooting I went into the CMOS clicked Ctrl F1 and went into the Advanced Chipset Features and changed HT Frequency to 4X. I am now able to boot with no errors. I hope this will fix your problem.

From another forum regarding your board and the A64 3400+.
