Help Please - System Will Not Post

Specs: ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard, E6600 Conroe, Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO (DDR2 800) memory, HIS X1900XT video card, Antec TPII-550ATX power supplies.

I have assembled all of my components and tried to power up. When I push the case's power switch, all of the fans start spinning, the green light on the motherboard is on, the light on one of the memory sticks comes on momentarily (A1 bank) then turns off, nothing happens past here. The BIOS does not kick in at all. I do not know what BIOS version I have as I can not power up the system and it is not posted on the motherboard's box. I suspect it is a higher version (1XXX) as I just got the board yesterday from Newegg.

I think I selected incompatible memory. This memory requires 2.0 V. I checked the Corsair site and it shows that this memory is not one that is compatible with this board (should have checked originally!). Would this cause the board to not post at all. I have seen previous posts where this is an issue for 965 chipset boards but no posts concerning 975 chipset boards. I suspect that this is why my system will not post. Any input here?

I'm pretty sure that the processor was installed and seated properly.

Also, the case's power switch will turn the computer on but can not turn it off.

Unless the memory itself is bad, it's not likely that this is a memory issue. Trying resetting the CMOS (remove battery, switch jumper - see manual). If that doesn't help, try booting with a single stick in A1. If you're still not having any luck, try re-seating the CPU and heatsink. I would also recheck that you have both the PSU's 20+4-pin and 4-pin connectors properly connected. It's also a good idea to disconnect any USB storage devices.

I already tried one stick only in A1 - gave each stick a try.

Question - There is an ATX12V connector at the the upper left of the board. My power supplies also has a 4-pin power connector (in addition to the 20+4 pin connector). Does the additional 4-pin connector need to be connected to the ATX12V connector?

Absolutely, it does. You have to connect BOTH the 20+4 pin connector to the right of the mem, and the 4-pin connector just above the CPU socket.

The additional 4 pin power was the problem.

That's what happens when you're rushing to put a rig together and the kids are yelling in the background.

Memory is fine. Got the BIOS to run.
