Ok the first thing his power comes on and stays on when he turns it on it the back?????????( dosnt seam right)
next thing is he thinks he had the multiplier set wrong to start off and had the rest to jumper free. Set right now still no post
He says that one of the rubber pads on the heat sink seams melted onto the cpu and the white sticker on the cpu seams burnt.
Never had it on for more that 3 min max.
No beep ,once he got some sort of beep but dosnt know what it sounded like otherwise no beep
He has taken all the cards out except for video reseated everything

First thing you want to do is only have the cpu, vid card, and ram hooked up to the mobo. The A7V and I think all the rest of teh boards have some diff features to them these days. For exampl when you turn on the power for the first time it boots to standby mode so it looks like the computer just shuts off (you can hit the space bar or push the start button to wake it up). Another thing I have noticed is that it takes longer to produce a beep than my old epox (heard it was because of safety concerns or something along those lines). Now make sure that you dont have anything else connected except for the essentials. When you run post the comp checks for the cpu, ram etc... So with each time you turn on the comp have somnething missing like the cpu and you should hear long and short beeps warning you. As for the melting on the cpu, he should check that a screw didnt fall behind the board and short it out or that the fan was mounted ok but not plugged in. If the green light on the board is on its not a power issue. Another thing that could of happend is that the board was bent on install which could have broken contacts. as for te white sticker I always take mine off so it wouldnt burn (it is paper).

Yep, I am in the same boat Muskie. I received a non-posting A7V like your freind. The power comes on, the green LED is lit, the fans rotate, but NO post. I tried everything including:
Swap out Power Supply, RAM, Video Cards, Short CMOS, ECT... I was running it with the V7700, Sparkle 300, T-Bird 750. Mine was revision 1.02. I sent the Motherboard and CPU back to be tested (hopefully by JonnyGURU). Your only choice may be to RMA it unless you have an extra Socket 462 CPU you can test it with.

Double check ALL the jumpers on the board against the manual. Set the board for JUMPER mode for overclocking. Set the cpu voltage at core default to start and I/O at 3.3v (I know default says 3.56). Reset the bios to default then readjust. Check the memory setting. Set by spd to start. Make sure the you have VGA instead of PCI selected if the vid card is VGA (easy to miss). Hook up your hard drive to the primary ide set at auto ID. Once you have your OS installed you can move the HD over to the ata100 if it is an ata100 drive. Remember then to disable ide and activate scsi/other in bios for the ata100 to bootup.

good luck

Just reread your post. The burning part sounds bad. Oooops.
