Help please - laptop screen EXTremely dim!

I have a Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop which is about a year old. Yesterday, I turned it on and didn't see anything on the screen. Upon further inspection, I noticed that I can barely see the display on the laptop, maybe 1/20th of the normal brightness. I tried hooking it up to an external monitor, and the it displays on the monitor just fine.

I tried adjusting the laptop bright/dim adjustments, but that has no effect.

Any suggestions?

Anyone have this problem? Or know how approx. how much it would cost to fix/replace?

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I'm out of warranty.

I went to dell support, and followed the directions to disassemble the LCD and all connectors, then put it back together again.

I was shocked when the LCD worked fine, but as soon as I closed the laptop, it died.

Anyone know any REPUTABLE LCD repair companies that won't rip me off?
