ok i traded my motherboard, cpu, tnt2, awe64 for a fic az11e, cpu (duron), hsf, and 256mb of ram. i got the stuff today, and the agp slot doesn't seem to work and i get a "checksum error" then says insert system disk and hit enter, i do so and nothing happens, just hangs (this is on a pcivideo card obviously....) i build pc's, but this whole day has been crap, i don't know what to do! plz help asap, the library closes in 1.2 hours

Download the manual for the board if you don't have it.
Remove everything except your best 1 stick of ram in the first slot. (check the manual) CPU, Video Card, Floppy and H.D. (check jumpers)
Reseat the CPU
Reseat the Video Card
Check all jumpers, cables and plugs for tightness and orientation.
Check under board for shorts, extra standoffs ect.
Clear the CMOS and or enter the bios and load Setup defaults
Check the bios for proper date and time.

Let us know...

ok it was sent with the HSF on it (kinda dumb but...whatever) and i can't get this damn hsf off (super orb) i don't wanna try a screwdriver or anything in fear that i'll..oops....ya know...
anyways, i tried just one stick of ram (cycled through 3 types actually...) tried 3 video cards, checked all jumpers, cleared the cmos, have the manual

basically all i haven't done is reseat the cpu......

Super Orb?

Maybe try everything else but taking the HS off for now, some have not had a pleasant experience attaching or removing those....

nope, can't get to the bios...... all i can get is "CHECKSUM ERROR"
i'm bout to go nuts! i hate asking for help......

You usually get the checksum error when the CMOS jumper pin is on the wrong set of pins, try reversing it.

I have the AD11 and when the jumper pin is set to 133mz bus it won't boot. I don't know if the AZ11e has this on it.

I would remove the board to make sure it's not grounding..
Clear the bios again by removing the power cord, cycle the front switch and replace the jumper or short the two solder points (depending on what you have) for at least 5-10 seconds, replace the power cord and try rebooting to the bios.

Thermaltake

Another possible thing to try before you test the chip and MB would be to pop in a new battery, or at least put a meter on it and check the voltage.

argh, ok.....
the jumper is at 100MHZ already checked (i have a fic az11 also 🙂 i found out the pc133 prob.), i've tried the board in the case, and out of the case..... i've tried replacing the battery, also have tried 2 power cords..... and 2 psu's

my times running out, bout to close in bout 10 so any last suggestions? i've tried all the other suggestions before i got em :-/

dont know what to say, but good luck.

maybe try a different mobo or cpu if u can, ull probably single out the MOBO being the culprit

The fact that it displays any message at all indicates that an awful lot of stuff is working properly (or close to it).

It would appear that your CPU, graphics adapter, system bus, monitor, and power supply are "working".

What about a just plain old data error in boot ROM code? Wouldn't that produce a checksum error? Also, errors in the ROM code might explain the seeming malfunction of either the keyboard or the diskette drive?

A little static electricity while you were working with the card could have injured the previously working ROM.

I can't think of anything else that would seem to fit the symptoms you have described.

The other forum members have made some excellent suggestions.

The only other thing I can suggest is charms, amulets, mystical incantations, and powerful potions from your local alchemist.

You have my sympathies regarding this obviously frustrating experience.

I wish you the best on this.

well finally got the guts to take the super orb off (they freak me out...they like to consume cores) and yup, the guy sent the cpu/mobo/hsf attached while shipped, and must got bumped or somethin but the core is chipped, so i put a t-bird 1GHz in this....512mb ram 🙂

Oh crud!
I didn't want to mention that earlier as I was hoping you would find something else that was fixable and not the dreaded chipped core.....I doubt though that shipping chipped it, most all the time it occurs when the HS is applied and the mechanism is too tight.

"the guy sent the cpu/mobo/hsf attached while shipped, and must got bumped or somethin but the core is chipped"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, Oh my GOD thankyou for proving my point in another thread.

I've shipped hundreds of Intel Cpus without this problem ever! Shipping has very little to do with this rather AMD's "weak" core.
