Okay, I was out of a system for a while and I just replaced my CPU and my graphics card to a different one.

Over the weekend, I formatted and reinstalled windows 98SE.

Okay the problem is when ever I play a video like

avi
dvd
mpeg

my computer locks up and I have to hard reset.

I know it's not my CPU because I tried it on default clock speed and all of my games play perfectly fine.

You think I should install directx again. I have no idea which codec plays all the video files. If anybody knows let me know please.

My system is under RIGS

Using 1.04 1 beta drivers using direct x 8

I know this is probably superfluous, but you *did* install the latest Via 4 in 1 drivers, right? That almost sounds like an AGP bus problem.

Have you tried de-clocking the FSB back from 154 to 133 and trying it again?

I tried

PowerDVD
Windows Media Player 7.1

and they freeze my system.

I've even tried my CPU's default clock of 9x 200fsb still no help.

If you are using PowerDVD, why screw it up with MP7.1? Use the PowerDVD player.

OK . . . why not use non-beta drivers? Anything beta places everything at risk.

I had the same thing happen to me. Not the same hardware changes tho, but same freezing problem.

I flashed my KT7 bios to the latest release (3r), put every setting back to where it was before, even clocked my cpu to default settings to test it out.

booted win2k fine, but anything played in wm or real would freeze the system.

after testing several things it turned out to be the memory, it just would not run at 133 no matter what the other settings were. before it was running at 133+ at cl2 with turbo settings (it was crucial 133cl2 after all)....

ended up flashing back to my previous bios (ZT) and all was well.
