Ok, things were going just great. Setting up a new computer for my cousins back in South America, duron 600, MSI K7T Pro, TNT1, 64mb ram. I put in the bare essentials in a brand new antec KS280 case, and booted up fine. Even went to the bios to check some things out. So at that point, i decided to put the HD, CDROm, and the floppy in. Tried to boot up....nothing! i reseated ram, cpu and vid card, plugged in ATX power cable and the case switch, still nothing! Any ideas?
Help please!! Anandtechers, i need your wisdom!

ARGH i even swapped mobo's to an A7V, it indicates power going thru, could it be the case power on switch? Did i mess up those lil wires?
What happens when you hit the power switch... anything? Fans turn on?
If not, you may have hit the switch on the back of the power supply.
As for the power switch "lil wires"... As long as the plug is in the right place, it doesn't matter which way it's hooked up.

absoloutley nothing happens, thats the thing. There is no switch on the back of the power supply since its an antec. Argh, it was just workign too!.
Probably you've got one of the cables backwards.
It should be marked which end goes to the motherboard
and which end to the device.
EDIT: I mean IDE cables that go to HD, etc...

unplugged everything and just leave power to MB. Than one at a time connect the cables to each device
Make sure you've got the Master/Slave config set right for the CD and HD. Even then it just sounds like a power cable got unseated.
I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do w/ any IDE devices, like i said, i put bare essentials for the post (vid card, ram, cpu) in the K7T and the A7V. It still won't power on. I know there is power going through since the A7V's LED was on.
Its a long shot you might want to check what voltage the PS is set to. 110 V here in US but I don't know down in S. America.

Ok, lemme make things a little more clear. I live in the US, but Im building a system for my cousins in S.A. I know about setting the voltage to 230, but right now it is at its default. The machine originally posted with just the TNT, Ram, Duron. I was able to go into the bios, but I did not change anything. I then proceeded to install the rest of the components (CDrom, HD, Floppy), then tried to turn it on, and it wouldn't. I reseated everything, including the ATX power connector. Still won't turn on. Is it possible that I some how messed up the wires of the case? (power sw, reset sw).
Hmm, now this problem is getting interesting. So, here's the sequence as I see it:
1) You connected the bare minimum - system posted.
2) Added the HD, CD, and floppy - system did not post.
3) Back to the bare minimum - system did not post.
If this sequence is the case I would say that it has to be a cabling problem - or something else has come unseated.

OK so now the power supply refuses to turn on?
Remove everything(to be sure nothing gets fried)
Plug the power supply ATX connector to the motherboard.
Remove ALL those little connectors that show hard drive LED, power LED etc etc.
Connect ONLY the power switch connector to the little pins.
Plug the power supply MAIN cable into a different wall outlet.(dont use a power strip, just incase it is bad)
Now press the the power button.. does the power supply fan turn on?
If yes... then the problem could have been the power strip, wall outlet, shorted device, incorrect power switch connector, etc.
If it did NOT turn on, then remove the little connector for the power switch from the motherboard, and use a screw driver, or similar tool to CONNECT those little pins for 1-2 secs, did this turn the power supply on?
If this screw driver trick worked then your power switch is bad.
If none of this worked then either the power supply is bad, or the mainboard, and since you have 2 mainboards, you can test them both. If it still won't work then it is the power supply.

I'd guess you screwed up something when connecting the drives (although I doubt plugging in those sorts of drives can short out a PWR supply or motherboard). Maybe while you plugged them in you killed something, or the cpu, RAM, or supply just died on it's own (possible if CPU had no fan, if you had to fit something into the system difficultly and broke something minor (capacitor, etc), or some other such problem. Set up the system as barebones as possible and doublecheck all the connection, give the MB and all attached pieces a good look-over to make sure nothing looks broken/burnt, and if it still doesn't work, try substituting each part with one that you know works (from another, working system), and find the trouble piece.
I don't think the motherboard had any damage to it, i swapped cpus and it still won't boot. Tried the screw driver trick, nothing. Should I return the case for a new one?

Have you tried removing the MoBo out of the case and starting it ?? could be some sort of short circuit.... or maybe a screw or washer has fallen on the MoBo and is shorting 2 contacts. Check that none of the metal stand-offs under the MoBo are creating a short circuit. Make sure the "lil wires" are on the correct pins. Could it be a blown fuse in the power supply ??
