Help picking out a monitor

dxkj

Lifer
Im trying to find a good monitor I can pick up locally (CC, BB, OD, etc, staples is a long drive)

Looking for either a 17" or 19" CRT Flat or close to flat, that can do 1600x1200 max, and around .25 or so.

Hoping to pay $100-$150, maybe a little more if its a GREAT 19"

Arent those 199? I couldnt find any rebate on them. Plus the 1600x1200 @ < 70 mhz is kinda weak

I think that $199 is a good value for the 955DF. I ran it before I got my LCD, and it was flat and sharp as can be. You won't probably run your desktop at 1600x1200, so you will only use it for gaming, where the refresh won't bug you as much. If you do use it for your desktop, you can set the refresh at 69 and get it nice and basically flicker free.

You get what you pay for, chief!

I have the Samsung 955DF and it's a pretty good monitor. The only thing I'm not so thrilled about is the refresh rate @ 1280X1024 is limited to 75Mhz; but you can get around that to make the Vid card push it up to my preference of 85Mhz.

Also, a very good warranty of 3 Years on parts and labor for the 955DF. I never heard of Amphion monitors, and I think for good reason. They seem to be marketed for business environments, and not gaming.

Whatever you get, good luck.

I wouldn't buy anything other than a NEC/Mitsubishi Diamondtron. Clearest, sharpest image of ANY monitor I have ever owned, and any monitor I've ever seen. I have a 19" Mitsubishi Diamondtron for over 5 yrs. now, and it looks like it just came out of the box. I run it at 1600x1200 @ 85hz (32-bit). I believe the dot-pitch is .25

EDIT : oh, mitsu DP930 that is 😀

Does anyone know how the Samsung 900DF compares to the 955DF? Reason I ask is because I'm in the same boat as dxkj. I need to replace my wifes old monitor that has went drastically out of focus, but the 900DF is $178 at our local Sam's Club. The specs on the monitors look the same. Could this just be the "wholesale" version of the 955?

Thanks,
Tom

The Samsungs are Great! and they last... reliability is superb. However, there are so many people trading in their CRT's for an LCD, that you can get a terrific Dell Trinitron , Sony Trinitron, Viewsonic, Samsung, Eizo Nanao, Nec Multisync, Princeton, or other fine monitor for as low as $40. I have a store room full of them... 60 good monitors with no way to unload them, and unwilling to throw them out because they are such fine monitors.

They do look the same spec wise. All I can see is 900 is black and 955 ivory unless u get the 955tt which is charcoal and silverish. Here is a good review of the 955. Hey, if you cant trust Anandtech who can you trust?
