Looking for a good, inexpencive in dash cd player. My car is an 87 toyota, so I dont want anything to high end. Somewhere in the 150 range. Possibly go up to 200, but Id like to keep it down as cheap as possible.

Thanks in advance for your help.

any particular brand that you are looking at? are you trying to run any subs in your car or are you just running original components with this head unit?

I dont really have any brand that I would prefer, though Ive been looking at sony and alpine.

Dont have a sub, just running original components for now. Once I have more cash, a sub is a definate however.

get a clarion proaudio or 2001 pioneer line. Best bang for the buck. Avoid sony XPLOD. Alpine is overpriced..

I've had a sony M-650... one of the xplode models. It works great with my sub and components, I Say you save up your money and get something that you can use with your sub when you get it. Save your money some more till you get around the $300 mark. Buy an alpine, those are really good, they where up there on my list when I bought mine, just the sony was slightly cheaper so I bought that one, but either is good.

I still say he saves up, cuz he wants to eventually have subs in his vehicle... he's gonna need a fairly strong head unit to support the rest of his system.

actually dude. If you plan on doing the audio system correctly. I wouldn't run squat off any head unit. A cheap 50x4 amp sound 2-10x better than any head units driving power. 2001 Pioneer head units at least have MOSFET amps built in, thats okay. Probably push 20-30 watts of clean power. Most head units without mosfet internal amps distort around 20watts rms..

I really like the new Sonys and Clarion is always good :)

What I would do is go somewhere where you can test out the units. Make sure that they do what you want them to do before spending any money.

You should be able to get a good dash unit for under 200 bucks

I own both the Kenwood models.
I am pleased with them.
They have slow access, but they play VBR MP3s.

I got a Clarion DRB-3675 for my '87 Toyota Corolla. It was only $140 at sounddomain.com

It really is a great unit. It has rotary volume knob and multi color fluorescent display. I highly reccomend.
