My brother is looking for a tv for his bedroom. SO I ask anyone that may be able to give some specific or general insight on any of these tv's or similar models please do so.
Here are the requirements.

[*]From BB (gift card)

[*]Flat screen (not flat panel)

[*]Budget is less than 300

[*]Has to have at least 2 composite connections on rear (not counting front/side A/V), one component, one S-Video.

[*]HD not needed.

Choice #1 - Insignia for $230. Haven't ever seen one in person. Is this a BB brand name???

Choice #2 - Sharp for $240.
Not sure if it has 2 composites on the rear.

Choice #3 - Magnavox for $250.
Again, not sure if it has 2 composites on the rear.

Choice #4 - JVC for $288.
Never been a big JVC fan but this one looks nice (on paper)

Choice #5 - Samsung for $309. Yeah, I didn't follow all the requirements. This one is over 300 but I recently purchased a samsung (from CC) and I like it.

I realize, for the most part, all of these tv's are very close in spec's, etc. and one may not stand high above the rest. So, any opinions on brand quality? Reliability? Picture Quality?

I'll try and add a poll but I've never done it before.

I got a couple votes here, thanks. OK, for thise that voted and anyone else, why the samsung? I need to give my brother some reasons as to why to go with the samsung.
Not just "becasue the otehr ones aren't any good" but some features or specs or something that will sell him on it.

Thanks for your input. If I know my brother like I think I do he won't even go for the $309 samsung but I told him to go there and actually look at the picture quality and write down some model #'s and I can try to help him from there.

Just want to get as much feedback from everyone here as to what tv has the best features and waht brands are generally better than others.

Well, he is married so him and his wife spend maybe two hours or so at night watching tv in their room I would guess. Maybe a little more on the weekends. They have a 42" plasma in the living room so that's waht they would watch sports, etc. on.

First check walmart B&M and see what they have in stock for Sanyo. Sanyo is partners with Samsung and their TV's have a very nice picture and can be found at walmart for a very good price along with a no hassle return. My buddy has this one

And as long as your TV it has 1 set of component inputs while at walmart and pick up a component video switch for $20.

You didn't mention that it has to be from Bestbuy. The Samsung is probably the nicest on your list with JVC, Magnavox, and Sharp probably being about the same quality and Insignia at the bottom.

They also have this Toshiba for $240, looks nice

Hey i work at electronics in Wal-Mart we have a 27 flat screen Sanyo with 2 sets of inputs and comes with a year IN-store warranty for 219.

I see what gets returned and there is NO way you could get me to own sharp maganovox and Jvc.Samsung is good and i dont know insignia.
But i can tell you this the best i sell is first Panasonic (which is what i own) and Sanyo.

Yeah, that would be nice but I think he is pretty firm @ a total of 300.

$30 extra is worth it for a Sony, they have a great picture and last a long time. i have an older model of this and dvds still look great on it.

I would buy the JVC or this Toshiba.

6 years ago I bought a Toshiba Cinema Series, never had a single problem with it. I would not hesitate buying another Toshiba tube or HDTV.

I second this... out of the choices you listed I'd say the JVC is the highest quality & will last the longest, but the Toshiba is by far the best option & well worth the extra $'s IME.

Edit: The Sony WEGA is a good choice too & its a Trinitron tube .

Agreed. What's 30$ more for a TV with fantastic picture quality and reliability?

I'd probably go with a Panasonic if I was in the market for a tv like what you're after.

The Toshiba 27" is a fantastic TV. My buddy had a 27 (untit the ex took it with her) and I had a 32" (until I went for X1 projector).
