Guys a few months ago I had these phantom restarts, the machine just restarts randomly and its really bad when its been turned off for a few hours or a day or more...it'll get to windows and wham restart, sometimes a couple times before it'll actually calm down...well the error messages led me to believe it was the video card driver (ATI 9700pro) and that idea went out the window last night...as it restarted right after I started the boot process before it even had a chance to load the drivers...I've got an abit nf7 board, 9700pro, 400w antec power supply cd rom, dvd drom, two seagate drives...only thing I can figure now is maybe my battery backup is frying power supplies? when I switche dpower supplies about christmas time it got a lot better, but now its getting bad again...anyone have a clue what could be going on?

I would unplug all IDE devices, soundcards, NICs, and extra RAM and see what happens. If its stable, one-by-one install a device and boot. Try to narrow it down to one device. If you take everything out that you can, and its still rebooting, then you know it might be an issue with the mobo, CPU, VC, or whatever else is left in there.

Try it out and let us know what happens..

Try using an outlet on a different circuit in the house or without the UPS (battery backup), your power lines or the UPS may be flaky.

I just got done with finals this week...I'm gonna start trying to narrow this down this next week...the problem with disconnecting things is its so random its gonna be very hard to see it restart while I've got parts out of it...I think when I get the nvidia 6800 I'm gonna throw in a 430 true power and see if that helps

could be a heat issue, or ram, rum memtest on your ram that is easy and doesnt require any removial of things, power supply is a very likely issue also
