My wife was not happy with the noise that my new PC made (please see sig for specs). The most noise was being made by my CPU Heatsink/fan (Coolermaster HHC-001). The fan was running about 7600 rpm.
I posted in one of these forums about a quiter solution and a recommendation was made to replace the fan with an Enermax 80mm and an adapter. I ordered both from Newegg and installed them once they arrived. I turned the PC on and fired up 3D 2001 and MBM 5 to test the new cooling solution. Well the PC ran for about 2 minutes and then cut off. It will not come back on properly now.
All I get now is a 1 second beep about every 4 or 5 seconds and it will not post. I've removed all of the cards and unplugged both IDE channels and the floppy channel. I've removed and reset the memory. I've even tried a new stick of memory that I just received. All to no avail. I even tried re-mounting the older fan and I keep getting the same results.
I've done some research about the beeps and it sounds like it is either the memory (I don't think that it is the memory because the brand new memory doesn't work either) or the CPU. All of the fans will come on, so I don't know if the MB is fried or not (if it is fried will it continue to power the fans?). Does this point to the CPU?
With my HHC-001 I was getting 38 - 47 C as the temps, so my new cooling solution would have had to have been much hotter to be a problem.
I purchased all of the items from Newegg and I even bought the 1 year extended warranty for the CPU (it is an OEM CPU). Can I RMA the items with them? Of course I'm not sure which items to RMA. What kind of experience has anyone had with their customer service?
Thanks,
Shon
